Pistons Lose Game 1 of Eastern Conference Finals

The Detroit Pistons fell behind early, and never really seemed to get into a rhythm in this one. Even with Shaq and Dwanye Wade in foul trouble trough out most of the game. The Miami Heat now has a 1-0 series lead. The final score was Miami 91, Detroit 86.

First Place

Currently the Detroit Tigers share the AL central lead with the Chicago White Sox. 1993 was the last time the Tigers were in first place this far into the season. I like to think that they'll be able to keep it up throughout the remainder of the season. They were able to move into a 1st place tie with a 7-4 win over the Minnesota Twins, and a White Sox loss to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

So Long Joey

The departure of Harrington, which has been several months in the making, is finally official. Friday the Detroit Lions traded Harrington to the Miami Dolphins for an undisclosed draft pick. Harrington will most likely be the starter until Dante Culpepper returns from his knee injury.

I Spy With My.....

It's been recently reported that the NSA (National Security Agency, or what we were previously led to believe, No Such Agency) has been forcefully collecting phone records of millions of U.S. citizens from major carriers. It's a sad state of affairs when the U.S. government is using fear of terrorism to abuse it's power and invade the privacy of millions of innocent people. It should be noted that Qwest Communications did not buckle under threats made by the NSA and helped keep it's customers rights from being violated. I would hope in the future more companies would follow Qwest's example.

PrideFC Total Elimination Absolute Round 1

Round one of this open weight tournament had some of the best mixed martial arts action I've seen in a while. And the fact that none of the eight fights went to decision made it that much more exciting. For my money the two best fights were Mark Hunt vs Tsuyoshi Kosaka, and Kazuyuki Fujita vs James Thompson.

Results:

Roman Zentsov def. Gilbert Yvel - TKO 4:55 rd 1 (match up to determine the alternate for the tournament.)

Fabricio Werdum def. Alistair Overeem - Kimura 3:43 rd 2 (Overeem's first ever loss via submission.)

Mark Hunt def. Tsuyoshi Kosaka - TKO 4:15 rd 2

Josh Barnett def. Aleksander Emelianenko - Americana 1:57 rd 2

Kazuyuki Fujita def. James Thompson - TKO 8:25 rd 1

Mirko (Crocop) Filipovic def. Ikuhisa Minowa - TKO 1:10 rd 1 (I'm a Minowa fan, but knew he was severely over matched in this one.)

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira def. Zuluzinho - Armbar 2:17 rd 1

Hidehiko Yoshida def. Yosuke Nishijima - Triangle Choke 2:33 rd 1

The match ups for the second round of this tournament haven't been announced yet, but I have some ideas as to who I'd like to see.

Hunt vs Fujita - This is almost a must have fight. Two heavy hitters that are next to impossible to knock out.

Barnett vs Fedor Emelianenko - Fedor was given a bye in the first round. Some bad blood has been brewing between these two, and now that Barnett has defeated the younger Emelianenko Fedor deserves a little vengeance.

Crocop vs Yoshida - Striker vs grappler. Styles make matches, and these two always do best in this type of match up.

Nogueira vs Werdum - Two guys that are both very well versed in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Would make for a very interesting fight.
